NEWS NOTES

šŸŽ¬ Lights, Camera, Cargo

CTV’s Your Morning is waking up in Saint John today. Host Lindsey Deluce is in town doing live and recorded segments for the national show, with a spotlight on our city’s growing rep as a major cargo hub. Expect appearances from Mayor Donna Reardon and Port CEO Craig Bell Estabrooks, plus a little national love for the harbour - and maybe even a glimpse of the west side’s early morning battle through Simms Corner.

The crew also stopped by Glassroots yesterday, New Brunswick’s only glassblowing studio , located on Canterbury St. They say they had a blast with Lindsey, and their segment should also be included on TV this morning.

✨Big Boost for Romero House

Romero House just landed a $1.1-million boost from McWane Canada (aka Clow Canada), and director Evelyn McNulty is thrilled, because it means space. Lots of it. The Brunswick Drive soup kitchen served a record 148,000 meals last year and has been running out of room to do it all. The expansion will add proper storage, freeing up space to bring back services paused during COVID, like the clothing and health rooms. The donation also fulfills a long-time wish from Evelyn’s late mother, Carolyn, who founded Romero House in 1982.

🤠 Tim Hicks, Tenille Townes, and a Ton of Whisky | July 26 & 27
This July, the Container Village is going full yeehaw. Boxcar Country Festival is back for another year - and the lineup’s rowdier than a raccoon at a rib festival with a stolen flask. Headlining this all-Canadian hoedown? Country chart-toppers Tenille Townes and Tim Hicks. They'll be joined by a boot-stomping crew including Jojo Mason, Robyn Ottolini, Canadian icons Big Sugar, and a whole roster of East Coast energy from Anna Graves, Pretty Western, The Martin Boys, and more.

They’ve got all them crowd pleasin’ amusements returning, like the mechanical bull, line dancing lessons, and a serious Canadian whisky situation. Also: BBQ. So much BBQ. It all goes down July 26 and 27 at AREA 506 Container Village, and early bird tickets are already up for grabs at $149 - if you’re a subscriber, check your inbox for that sweet pre-sale code. The rest of y’all? Public sales open today at 10am.
