NEWS NOTES

🏘️ Quispam’s Got Big Housing Plans

Quispamsis just rolled out a full-blown housing strategy, and the math is clear: they’ll need 125 new units every year until 2050 to keep up with growth. That’s over 3,100 new homes to welcome an expected 8,400 new residents. Town council gave the plan the green light last week after more than a year of planning and public input.

The new strategy pushes for more than just single-family homes (which currently make up 80–85% of housing) - think duplexes, terraces, and apartments. Other moves include expanding water service, promoting underused lots, and regulating short-term rentals.

🎈Saint John Magician Pops onto Primetime

Saint John’s Robin Sheikh is hitting the big time with a spot on Penn & Teller: Fool Us, airing this Friday at 9pm on the CW Network. Her balloon-based magic act, filmed for the show in Las Vegas, involves audience participation, a surprise pet name reveal, and…a goat castrator. (No goats were harmed, but several balloons were dramatically stuffed.) The quirky tool turned out to be so effective, Teller asked if he could borrow it for his act. Sheikh, who’s built a name locally for her creative stagecraft, says the hometown support has been magic in itself, even as she aims for cruise ships, big-stage contests, and beyond.

🚶‍♀️ Sussex to Rothesay: A Walk to Work Adventure

Did you see this awesome video from River & Trail in Rothesay? Sandi and Taryn decided to take National Walk to Work Day to the next level with a 60km trek last week! Starting from Sandi’s home in Sussex, they walked 50km before taking a break, then finished the last 10km with a few fellow adventurers joining in for the final stretch.

What they call a walk to work, is a reminder that adventure doesn’t always have to be complicated - sometimes it’s as simple as setting a goal and going for it. Huge kudos to Sandi and Taryn for making this journey happen, and showing us that every step counts when you're exploring the beauty of our own backyard!

Goodman Inc. | April 10
It’s family business…but with hitmen. This high-stakes thriller follows the Goodman clan, a crew of contract killers whose world explodes when a rival targets one of their own. Cue the vengeance. Screening at the BMO Studio Theatre, this film is packed with action, sharp dialogue, and some serious grit. Showtime is 7:30pm. Not rated, but expect violence and coarse language. And yes, it’s a movie, not live theatre.

Alfie Zappacosta | April 12
Canadian music icon Alfie Zappacosta brings his smooth vocals and timeless hits to the BMO Studio Theatre for one night only. Part of the Live @ The BMO Music Series, this intimate show blends songs from his decades-long career with personal stories and a few surprises. Showtime is 7:30pm and tickets are $35, or $30 if you're a Main Stage subscriber.

American Cats: The Good, the Bad, and the Cuddly | April 15
Part of the Foggy Docs Film Series, this sharp and hilarious doc by Amy Hoggart (of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee) takes on the clawful truth about cat declawing in Ontario. Expect laughs, gasps, and a few kittens. It screens at BMO Studio Theatre at 7:30pm and runs about 90 minutes. Perfect for documentary lovers, animal advocates, or anyone curious about what’s really going on in the cat world.

STEVE-O Super Dummy! Tour | April 18
