⚡ Power’s On, Snowplows Off!

In partnership with:

Good morning Saint John! Shoutout to everyone who said ‘ah, let’s just drive over it’ about the snowbanks at the end of the driveway yesterday! That better be the end of it. 🚗

Here’s what we’re hearing today:

  • Point Lepreau is back up & running 🔋

  • Saint John based companies among best to work 💼

  • Protect your tools 🔧

Let’s dive in!

Jaymee at Loch Lomond Mitsubishi doesn’t hype just anything. But when Mitsubishi drops $10,000 in instant savings on the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, she’s telling everyone!

Why? Because this SUV is a game-changer. It runs on electric for daily driving and switches to gas when you need it.

No range anxiety, no massive fuel bill - just smart, efficient driving.

🚘 Plug-in hybrid power - electric when you want it, gas when you need it
💸 2.99% financing - the lowest rate Mitsubishi will ever offer
⛽ An SUV that barely sips gas, and never leaves you stranded

You know a deal’s serious when Jaymee won’t stop talking about it. See what the hype is about before March is over → Check out the Outlander PHEV!

NEWS NOTES

🔌 Point Lepreau’s Fan Fix is in

Good news for the grid, Point Lepreau is back up and running after a cooling fan issue forced a temporary shutdown last week. NB Power says the repairs went smoothly, and diagnostics gave the station a clean bill of health. No safety risks, no flickering lights, and hopefully, no surprise repair bill (though we’ll see when the financials drop). For now, the 660-megawatt reactor is back in action…cue the sigh of relief from NB Power (and anyone who likes their lights on).

🚜 Snow Joke: City’s Sidewalk Plows Are Running on Fumes

It was the Winter Olympics no one signed up for - climbing snowbanks, wading through slush, and perfecting the penguin walk just to stay upright. Turns out, the city’s fleet of sidewalk plows is as battle-worn as your favourite pair of winter boots. With breakdowns galore, only half the city’s 11 plows were in action most storms, sometimes as few as three. That meant pedestrians were waiting longer than usual for clear paths, with some sidewalks staying snowbound well past the city’s service targets.

The city hopes to replace three plows before next winter and keep at least one as a backup. Meanwhile, council is eyeing steeper fines for overnight street parkers who block snowplows, and staff are working on ways to stretch salt supplies after a winter that tested the limits. With snow-clearing resources up for debate in next year’s budget, council will have to decide whether to shovel more money into the problem.

🏆 Saint John Workplaces Make the Cut

Five Saint John companies just scored a spot on Atlantic Canada’s Top Employers list: Brunswick Credit Union, CAA Atlantic, Irving Oil, Port Saint John, and WorkSafeNB, plus Horizon Health Network. The list highlights workplaces stepping up with better benefits, work-life balance, and support for employees.

With five local companies on the list, Saint John is proving it’s a city where top employers, and top talent, want to be.

🚔 Police Warn of Rising Tool Thefts

Saint John Police are seeing a rise in tool thefts from homes, vehicles, and construction sites, urging residents and businesses to take precautions.

Tips to protect your tools:

  • Mark them – Engrave or label tools with unique identifiers.

  • Record serial numbers – Keep an inventory with photos and purchase details.

  • Secure storage – Lock up tools when not in use, never leave them in plain sight.

By taking these simple steps, you can make a big difference in keeping your tools, and your community, safer.
