“The SJFD is committed to building a team that truly reflects the community we serve,” says Fire Chief Rob Nichol. If you’re up for the challenge, online applications are open until March 20.

To register for today’s info session, email [email protected].

♀️ Saint John’s Fight for the Vote

With International Women’s Day coming up Saturday, let’s talk about Saint John’s own fight for women’s voting rights. The latest episode of Saint John: Nothing Happened Here dives into the late-1800s battle led by the Saint John Women’s Enfranchisement Organization.

These women, and their allies, rallied with petitions, newspaper campaigns, and political lobbying. Activists like Emma Fiske, Mabel Peters, and Ella Hatheway even brought global icons like Sylvia Pankhurst and Julia Ward Howe to town. It took decades, but in 1919, they won, though First Nations women on reserves had to wait another 40 years.

Want the full story? Dr. Heidi MacDonald joins hosts Mark Allan Greene and Greg Marquis to break it all down. Listen to it here or wherever you get your podcasts.

💰 Crypto Scam Uses Premier Holt’s Image to Lure Victims

A new crypto scam is circulating in New Brunswick, featuring Premier Susan Holt’s image to promote a fake trading platform, CanCap. The Financial and Consumer Services Commission (FCNB) warns the doctored article, which looks like it’s from the Telegraph-Journal, falsely claims Holt is endorsing CanCap, an unregistered platform with no ties to the Bank of Canada’s digital currency.

The scam promises risk-free investments and suggests the platform is linked to provincial tariff relief, but it’s all a ploy. FCNB urges New Brunswickers to verify crypto platforms before investing and to report any suspicious offers. Don’t let this scam trick you, always check before you invest!

📺 Saint John Mayor Gets Late-Night Treatment

In case you missed it, Mayor Reardon made it to The Daily Show on Tuesday night, thanks to a… let’s say unique analogy she used in a CBC interview about U.S. tariffs. We got what she was going for, but it definitely raised some eyebrows. Either way, it’s a fun watch…
