⛄️ Snow's Not Done Yet
Good morning, Saint John! Big shoutout to Gary Caines and the Fundy Sea Shanty Fest crew for an incredible Springtide weekend! I caught a few performances - including the grand finale at Trinity Church - and let’s just say, the shanties were shantying. The workshops and shows were a blast, and now I’m officially counting down to the main event in St. Martins this summer! ⚓🎶
In todays addition:
One more snowfall coming 🌨️
Fast-tracked housing announced 🏗️
What could an urban trail network look like in Saint John? 🌿
Let’s get it!

NEWS NOTES
❄️ Heads Up: Snow Is Coming…Maybe
Well, it looks like winter isn’t quite done with us yet! Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for southern New Brunswick. We’re expecting rapidly accumulating snow starting tonight into Tuesday morning, with totals ranging from 10 to 15 cm – possibly up to 25 cm!
The good news? As usual, it’s likely to change to rain along the coast, and Tuesday’s high is 6°C, so it shouldn’t stick around for long.
If you’re traveling, be prepared for slippery roads and reduced visibility. Conditions could get tricky, so it’s a good idea to check your route and stay updated on the latest alerts. Stay safe and keep an eye on the weather!
🏠 Saint John Gets a Housing Boost
Saint John is getting a $918,000 boost from the Government of Canada to fast-track 34 new housing units over the next two years. The funding, part of the Housing Accelerator Fund, will help build higher-density developments in the uptown and surrounding areas. With less than 2% vacancy, the plan for this funding is to help create affordable, livable neighbourhoods and keep pace with the city’s growth. Mayor Donna Reardon says, “This will help Saint John grow and create neighbourhoods where citizens feel they belong.”
🌊 A Deep Dive into the Bay of Fundy
A new documentary is making waves in the region, spotlighting how the Bay of Fundy has changed over the years. Hands in the Current: Stories of Work, Water, and Home premiered in Saint Andrews this weekend, featuring stories from locals who’ve spent their lives on (or under) the bay - fishermen, marine biologists, divers, and more.
From shifting seaweed harvests to invasive species, the film, created by Eastern Charlotte Waterways and Hemmings House, explores the environmental shifts happening right in our backyard. More screenings are planned this spring, including in Saint John, so stay tuned!
